A LETTER FROM SIS HOVIS

To Our Friends at WelkNotes

As you know, the 2005 Inauguration of President George W. Bush held very special meaning for us.  We joined more than 800,000 people from around the country to participate in this historic event.  As part of the festivities, Guy sang the song, “Let The Eagle Soar” written by Attorney General John Ashcroft just prior to the Oath of Office.  Most of you will remember it from God Bless America – the Welk TV special from Branson.

There is no way to describe our feelings.  Guy was so honored to have been asked and to be a part of something of this magnitude.  I was overwhelmed just sitting up on that platform, but was filled with immense pride when he stood up and began to sing.  Neither of us can imagine any other event in a career to top being told, “Great job!” and being thanked, in person, by the President of the United States.  It was a wonderful moment to remember forever.

We also were included in the Inaugural Luncheon, where many of you have said you saw us on the CSPAN coverage.  We are both still amazed to realize that we had lunch with FOUR United States Presidents and First Ladies.

The ball we attended was the Constitution Ball and both President and Mrs. Bush and Vice President and Mrs. Cheney stopped by during the night.   All the parties, receptions, and dinners were wonderful.  Of special interest to all music lovers was the Red-White-and Blues Party for Mississippians, where our own legendary BB King entertained.

Another high point for us was the Prayer Service in the National Cathedral, at which we got to meet Reverend Billy Graham.

The entire week was amazing and will always be so special to us both.  You have all been so kind to send your compliments, cards and letters to Guy.  He is so grateful for your love and support through the years, and never more so than at very significant times like this.  We are deeply touched by your kind words and appreciate each one of you.

God Bless you all.
